So I havn't updated this in forever and I figured I need to be better about that. I rode Pisgah National Forrest on Friday. It was amazing. Lots of hike-a-bike, but totally worth the downhill runs that followed. Taking a 29er SS rigid setup through pisgah was somewhat of a cathartic experience. The pain of climbing followed by the rattling of the downhill really jarred me, but it was really really really fun. I have a whole new found love for my rigid fork. Using Ergon grips helped immensely. I did Daniel Ridge and Sycamore Cove. I tired to do another cove, but got lost and ended back up on Daniel Ridge connector. The trails there just go everywhere. I was in awe of the whole place.
I recall going there when I was younger and I went to Sliding rock, but I had no idea of all the amazing fun that existed in so many remote spots and the challenges that lie before me. I plan on going back, probably after Winter, circa March or so for probably a weekend of riding.
You don't get a lot of "real" mountain biking around Atlanta I'm learning and I've also learned to be a "real" mountain biker I really need to improve on some of my skill sets, such as very long sustained climbing and knowing how to be better at that. So for 2010 I plan on doing some more challenging adventures, such as the 34 mile option on Snake Gap Time Trial, and perhaps the 50 in 2011. I'll certainly think about doing Fools Gold, but will probably opt to volunteer again. As far as racing goes. I don't plan on setting any real goals other than to attend and have fun. I'll never be a podium finisher in most races. I'm just not that fast, but I'm ok with that and I really have no desire to improve my speed. I just want to have a good time, and I do.
